During an initial evaluation, staff will work with the patient and his/her family to determine the most appropriate level of care for treatment. Individuals may start with inpatient programming and move to outpatient, or sometimes directly to outpatient.
The most intensive and structured level of care is inpatient services. Philhaven offers both adult inpatient and child and adolescent inpatient programs. Inpatient programs are designed for those experiencing significant mental health problems. Individuals requiring inpatient treatment have significant difficulty functioning in their homes, communities, school or work. Such individuals may also be at a high risk for harming themselves and/or others.
Long-term residential programs in both campus and community-based settings are also available for adolescents and adults needing comprehensive and long-term treatment. The treatment is similar to inpatient treatment but with less supervision and oversight as the individual works on transferring the skills learned in these programs to their day to day lives in the community.
The next level of care, Day (Partial) Hospitalization, is available for children, adolescents and adults. These programs are designed to allow individuals to remain with their families and community. Day hospitalization is available at several of Philhaven’s facilities including Lancaster, Lebanon and York. Such programming can vary from 3-6 hours and includes a full range of psychiatric services including individual therapy, medication management, group therapy, and family therapy. Children and adolescents receive age appropriate education services as well coordinated between Philhaven’s certified teachers and the student’s home school district.
Behavioral health rehabilitative services (also called wrap-around services) are available for both adolescents and children. These services include, but are not limited to, school, family and program based programs, mobile therapy and therapeutic staff support. The purpose of these programs is to “wrap” therapeutic support around the individual in the location that they are experiencing difficulties. Other services at this level of care include family based mental health services, supported housing, ACT, Clubhouses, and Afterschool programs.
Outpatient services are one of the most commonly utilized levels of care. These services include office visits to a licensed mental health practitioner, normally on a regular basis. Such visits are typically for psychotherapy, group therapy, family therapy or medication management. Philhaven has a variety of locations and practitioners available for outpatient treatment.
Outpatient services also include assessment evaluations provided by Philhaven. Psychiatric and psychological evaluations fall under this level. Individuals needing an assessment for school, employment or other reasons may contact Philhaven to schedule an appointment.
The lowest level of care is considered the prevention and educational services Philhaven provides to the community. Programs under this level include the Lebanon Collaborative Network and the Parent’s Advisory Council.
Philhaven strives to always provide the most appropriate level of care for patients. Patients and family members are encouraged to ask questions regarding treatment, providers, cost and more to ensure full understanding of the program and Philhaven. Our mission is to promote hope, healing, and wholeness for you and your family.
