The School-Based Program provides services to children and adolescents with serious emotional, social and/or behavioral problems which prevent placement in a more restrictive educational or therapeutic setting. Referrals are made by pastors, treatment providers, and school or agency personnel. This program is designed to serve children and adolescents who are identified as at-risk by school or agency personnel. Usually the child or adolescent lacks skills necessary to cope with feelings, to successfully socialize with others and/or to control behavior at school.
A multidisciplinary team consisting of the Director of School-Based Services, Board-certified child psychiatrist, mobile therapists, behavioral specialist consultants and therapeutic support staff provide the individualized services for this program.
Together, the parent, child, school personnel, MH/MR or CASSP, and other involved child/adolescent service agencies write the child's treatment plan. The child's or adolescent's treatment plan is guided by identified needs, problems, strengths and goals.
Services provided include:
- Psychiatric or psychological evaluation
- Development of specific plans to help the child or adolescent reach goals
- Behavioral consultative services to school and agency staff
- Individual and group skills training
- Family therapy
The Goals of the Child and Adolescent School-Based Mental Health Services Program are to:
- Combine education and mental health treatment in the natural environment of the child's or adolescent's school and community.
- Help the child or adolescent succeed in the classroom setting and during activities and free time.
- Build a united approach with all significant adults to help the child or adolescent reach social, emotional and behavioral goals.
